Ethereum Founders Twitter Gets Hacked
Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum crypto, found himself in an unfortunate situation when his Twitter account fell victim to a hacking incident.
These aren’t the kinds of guys you usually want to hear got hacked. Let me tell you a bit more.
In a tweet sent from Buterin’s account, an alluring offer was presented – a “commemorative NFT” to celebrate the impending “proto-danksharding” update to the Ethereum protocol. However, this seemingly exciting opportunity turned out to be a malicious trap, leading users to a fraudulent scheme that put their wallets at risk of being emptied of both cryptocurrency and valuable NFTs.
Notably, this type of attack resulted in the theft of significant assets, including two CryptoPunks, a collection valued at around 47 ETH or approximately $76,800. Yet, assessing the value of certain complex NFTs proved and continues to prove challenging. Swift action was taken to remove the malicious tweet within twenty minutes of its posting, preventing further damage.
Nonetheless, this incident shed light on the potential consequences of hacking high-profile individuals in the cryptocurrency space, serving as yet another reminder to the crypto, or any community for that matter, prompting sentiments such as “if Vitalik can get hacked, anyone can.”
“We all bleed red.”
