NK Hackers Target Russian Government
North Korea, hacking another well known threat actor, Russia.
Microsoft has uncovered a series of cyberattacks orchestrated by North Korean hacking groups, notably Ruby Sleet (CERIUM), Diamond Sleet (ZINC), and Lazarus, targeting Russian government and defense entities in 2023. These threat actors are leveraging Russia’s attention on the Ukraine crisis to infiltrate and gather intelligence from compromised Russian systems.
In March 2023, their activities included successful breaches of a Russian aerospace research institute and diplomatic accounts. These cyberattacks have transcended national borders, with arms manufacturers in Germany, Israel, Brazil, Czechia, Finland, Italy, Norway, and Poland also falling victim to these coordinated efforts.
These cyberattacks, spanning multiple countries and targeting various arms manufacturers, underscore the evolving and global nature of cybersecurity threats. It serves as a stark reminder of the need for ongoing vigilance and robust security measures in an increasingly interconnected world.
I can see missile information being valuable here. Any technology advancements that they can get their hands on are surely welcomed. Lazarus is one of the biggest threat actors hailing from NK.
It’s interesting to see how these groups freely develop as time goes on since they are government sponsored and have no fear of sanctions.
